About this event
In Islam, Friday prayer, or Congregational prayer (Arabic: صَلَاة ٱلْجُمُعَة Ṣalāt al-Jumuʿah), is a prayer (ṣalāt) that Muslims hold every Friday after noon, instead of the Zuhr prayer. Muslims ordinarily pray five times each day according to the sun's sky path, regardless of time zones. Youm Jumu’ah ("day of congregation"), or simply Jumuah means Friday in Arabic. In many Muslim countries, the weekend is inclusive of Fridays, and in others, Fridays are half-days for schools and some workplaces. It is one of the most exalted Islamic rituals and one of its confirmed obligatory acts. Muslim Student Life at Syracuse University supports Muslim students, faculty, and staff in all religious and spiritual needs for development and growth. It is about accommodation, openness, and understanding – not judgement or restriction. Muslim Student Life aims at improving understanding and representation of Muslim cultures and communities here in the US and around the world through sharing our universal values with people of faith and no faith.
