The Librarians won the 2026 Primetime Emmy Award for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking. Join us for The Librarians: Screening & Discussion. Directed by Kim A. Snyder, 2025 (92 min). Librarians unite to combat book banning, defending intellectual freedom on democracy's frontlines amid unprecedented censorship in Texas, Florida and beyond. You are welcome to attend one or both parts of this event. This screening is free and open to the public. Screening — 3:30–5:10 PM Note to current SU Affiliates: you may also view The Librarians through our Libraries website on the Alexander Street database. 20-minute break Post-Screening Discussion — 5:30–6:30 PM Following the film, join a conversation on book banning, intellectual freedom and the role of librarians as frontline defenders of access to information in schools and public libraries today. Featuring special guests: Amanda Perrine, Executive Director, Onondaga County Public LibrariesAlyssa Martin, Director, Manlius LibraryBanned Books Week is organized by Syracuse University Libraries and the College of Arts & Sciences' Department of English, along with sponsors: the Departments of Religion; Women's and Gender Studies; Art and Music History; LGBT Studies; Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics; Political Science; and Writing; The Humanities Center; as well as the Tully Center for Free Speech and Maxwell School's Community Geography Program.
