Faculty Perspectives From the classroom to the research lab, academic freedom underpins the ability of scholars to pursue difficult questions and challenge conventional wisdom. Yet this freedom faces growing challenges, including political pressure, funding constraints and shifting institutional priorities. This panel explores both the enduring value of academic freedom and the threats confronting it today. Sawyer Chair of Constitutional Law & Politics, Department of Political Science Tom Perreault, Professor, Department of Geography and the Environment Banned Books Week is organized by Syracuse University Libraries and the College of Arts & Sciences' Department of English, along with sponsors: the Departments of Religion; Women's and Gender Studies; Art and Music History; LGBT Studies; Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics; Political Science; and Writing; The Humanities Center; as well as the Tully Center for Free Speech and Maxwell School's Community Geography Program.
